History

Mijas has a long history dating back to ancient Rome, as evidenced by archaeological finds in the region.
During the Moorish rule, Mijas was an important agricultural and trading settlement, known for its wine and olive production.
After its reconquest by the Catholic kings in the 15th century, Mijas became part of the kingdom of Castile
and remained an agricultural community until the rise of tourism in the 20th century.
